Casa de la Luna La Caleta de Salobreña Costa Tropical Spain |

The name La Caleta means “small cove” and this is exactly where the pueblo blanco of La Caleta sits overlooking the Mediterranean on Spain’s Costa Tropical. The Mediterranean stretches to infinity in front of you and, at night, you can hear the waves lapping on the shore. To the east a Moorish castle dominates the skyline atop the old town of Salobreña. To the north the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains, snow-capped in winter, fade into the distance . This is the real Spain and you can see it all from Casa de la Luna. La Caleta is like an amphitheatre above a small beach where local fishermen land their catches and there is a path that winds its way to a tiny secluded cove just around the headland. Unspoilt by mass tourism, there are only two bars, a small grocery store and one of the best bakeries in Spain – hot bread for breakfast is irresistible! However, this peaceful and charming spot is only five minutes by car from the hustle and bustle of Salobreña and ten minutes from Almuñécar. Parts of the house were built c100 years ago but it has all been sympathetically restored and modernised without losing the essential Spanish ambience. On the ground floor there is a large master double bedroom, bathroom and kitchen-diner. The kitchen itself has all the modern amenities including a large fridge/freezer, electric oven and gas hob. There is a utility area with washing machine and a shady patio at the back of the house. The top floor has another large double bedroom and a children’s single bedroom plus access to the breathtaking views on the terrace. Both double bedrooms overlook the ocean. Ceiling fans cool the house in summer and there is a rarely used heater for the brief winter period. Car parking is available at the top and the bottom of the village – though not at the house which is in a pedestrian area. We recommend car hire as there is so much to see in this part of Spain apart from the beaches. Drive north to Granada and the fabulous Alhambra Palace or explore the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarra white villages. There is golf at Motril and Granada and, in winter, skiing in the Sierra Nevada. Salobreña and Almuñécar also offer a wide range of restaurants and bars, shops and supermarkets. Alternatively, just relax, sit back and enjoy the splendid seclusion of La Caleta as you watch the world from the comfort of the terrace.
